Partners of online sex offenders can be the first to detect and report child abuse.
Right now partners are not supported in their quest for justice for abused children.
They are disbelieved, judged, blamed and stigmatised, which as well as compounding the trauma experienced by partners, enables more child sexual abuse to continue unchecked.
Finding out that your partner is involved with child abuse material is enough to cause many people to experience PTSD. Many lose their jobs or homes, and some are worried about losing their children because of the offender's actions.
PartnerSPEAK is a multi-faceted organisation supporting traumatised partners in crisis, speaking-out about child sexual abuse, advocating, lobbying, educating, and fundraising.
PartnerSPEAK is the only support service for partners of online child sex offenders in Australia.
Every day a child sex exploitation story will hit the news, and in most instances, another partner will be wrongfully wrapped-up in the crime. Australian Federal Police investigated 11,000 child sex exploitation cases in 2015.
PartnerSPEAK hosts a moderated peer support forum. Evidence shows peer support, from people going through a similar experience, is instrumental in redressing shame and blame and facilitating healing.
PartnerSPEAK also offers face to face peer support groups as well as one on one support, video and telephone sessions.
We lobby institutions for partners to be supported in other meaningful ways. Through our advocacy, things are changing.
PartnerSPEAK has been driven by partners who have experienced this trauma. If you want to be part of a society that doesn’t further traumatise innocent people who are in crisis: take a stand, support this campaign, and join PartnerSPEAK, so it is not solely the responsibility of people who have found themselves in this situation to bring about change.
